Protecting global seagrass meadows to support climate change mitigation
This research will leverage machine-learning algorithms to build species distribution models aimed at accurately mapping seagrass meadow habitats at both regional and global scales, under both current environmental conditions and future climate scenarios. It will also quantify the carbon sequestration potential of seagrass meadows, thereby contributing to the identification of global priority conservation areas whose protection may have a crucial effect on climate change mitigation.
