Algorithms for Extended Perception, Spatial Recognition, and Object Detection for Smart Eyewear
The emergence of smart eyewear technology opens up possibilities for new use cases of Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in everyday life. To support this technology, the research takes on the goal of developing new computer vision and AI algorithms, focusing in particular on learning-based approaches. It tackles 3D perception and understanding of the scene, including object interaction and human activity, through the eyes of the user (egocentric vision). It explores the benefits of diverse sensors through multimodal processing and sensor fusion, including recent technologies such as neuromorphic event-based sensors, while addressing the challenges of enabling this type of algorithm on wearable devices and in partitioned cloud-edge scenarios.
